Welcome to my blog, and thank you for visiting my website! My name is Anne Keen, and I am delighted to introduce myself as a new therapist dedicated to supporting you on your journey toward mental wellness. In this first post, I want to share a bit about my path to becoming a therapist and what drives my passion for this work.

My Educational Journey

My journey into the field of mental health began at Rollins College, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Communication Studies. This foundational education ignited my interest in understanding human behavior and communication, leading me to pursue further studies. I continued at Rollins College, completing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, complemented by a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. Currently, I am pursuing licensure as a Registered Mental Health Counselor in Florida.

Gaining Professional Experience

During my studies, I had the opportunity to gain practical experience through various internships and practicums. I completed my practicum and internship at "The House Next Door," a community mental health organization in DeLand, FL. Here, I worked extensively with crisis and short-term therapy, gaining valuable experience with a diverse population. Additionally, my Social Justice pre-practicum with the Pediatric Palliative Care Team enriched my understanding of grief and client advocacy, which has profoundly influenced my therapeutic approach.

My Approach to Therapy

My therapeutic approach is eclectic, utilizing trauma-informed care, person-centered, narrative, and Jungian methods, all rooted in attachment theory and polyvagal theory. I believe in meeting clients where they are and helping them navigate their unique journeys. My own experience with therapy as a teenager significantly shaped my life, inspiring me to become a therapist who advocates for my clients and community.

Areas of Specialization

I specialize in working with individuals dealing with childhood trauma and PTSD, relationship and attachment wounds, self-esteem issues, identity development, anxiety, and issues related to men's mental health. These areas are close to my heart, and I am committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for my clients to explore and heal. I work with children, teens, and adults. I offer individual, couples, and family sessions.

Professional Involvement and Continued Growth

Currently, I serve as the graduate student representative for the Mental Health Counselors of Central Florida. I am also dedicated to my ongoing professional development, with plans to pursue certifications in hypnotherapy and play therapy. Staying current with new techniques and approaches ensures that I provide the best care possible.

My Philosophy and Client Interaction

I am deeply committed to a client-centered approach, motivated to help you live life in alignment with your values and empower you to learn about yourself, your body, and your experiences. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental, and empathetic environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself and exploring your thoughts and feelings.

Looking Forward

Starting this blog is an exciting step for me as it allows me to connect with you in a new way. In future posts, I will be sharing insights on mental health topics, self-care tips, and practical advice for navigating life's challenges. My hope is that these posts will provide you with valuable information and a sense of connection, whether you are a current client, considering therapy, or simply interested in mental health.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my journey. If you have any questions or are ready to start your own journey toward mental wellness, please don't hesitate to reach out. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your path to a healthier, happier life.
